Transparency group calls for Warner probe

The Trinidad and Tobago Transparency Institute is calling for an independent probe of former FIFA vice president Austin Jack Warner.

Warner resigned yesterday, weeks after he was suspended by the world governing football body following bribery allegations.

FIFA said that as a result of Warner’s self-determined resignation, its probe has been closed.

However, the Transparency Institute said it is important for the five-member coalition People’s Partnership government ensure that it is not tainted.

It said the Code of Conduct for Ministers and Parliamentarians should be reviewed because it is unsatisfactory for the reputation of a senior minister to be called into question without an investigation to determine the truth.
