St. Vincent Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has won a defamation suit he had filed against radio talk show host Eduardo EG Lynch.

The case, which was also brought against BDS Ltd., owners of NICE Radio, related to allegations about a trip by Prime Minister Gonsalves and his family to Rome.

The Court of Appeal has ruled that Lynch pay Gonsalves damages totalling US$51,851.

In addition, the radio talk show host must also pay US$14,814 in costs as well as interests to be assessed dating back to 2008.

Attorney Anthony Astaphan, who represented the Prime Minister, has described the ruling as significant.

He said the judgement has to be one of the highest awards for defamation in the history of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.
