Gay pulls out of US trials

American sprinter Tyson Gay pulled out of the 100 metres at the U.S. trials yesterday, depriving him of a rematch with Jamaican world record holder Usain Bolt at the World Championships in August.



Hip problems forced the world's second fastest man to withdraw. Gay had finished second in his preliminary race on Thursday, saying his right hip was sore.



Walter Dix won the final and Justin Gatlin punched his ticket for the World Championships as well.



Dix ran 9.94 seconds to win over Gatlin, who was just a step behind him at 9.95. Mike Rodgers produced 9.95 seconds for third.



Meanwhile, Carmelita Jeter blasted to a wind-aided 10.74 seconds to win the women’s title over Marshevet Myers, 10.83 and Miki Barber 10.96
