JOA advises athlete of doping violation
The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) is maintaining that the athlete who tested positive for a banned substance was advised of the doping violation on Monday.
Julian Dunkley, whose name was withdrawn from the official list of track and field athletes after the JOA confirmed the positive result, denied on a Radio Programme that he was contacted about any doping violation.
However, a senior officer of the JOA said the athlete who tested positive was contacted by phone, by the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) on Monday.
The senior officer further said a document regarding the doping violation was faxed to the athlete on Monday, who confirmed that he had received the letter.
The senior officer also said the ticket, which was issued to the athlete was cancelled on Monday.
However, Dunkley told the media that he would depart for the Beijing Olympics tomorrow, to join the 11-day pre-Olympic camp in Tianjin Province.
The athlete now has five days to indicate whether the right to the testing of the ‘B’ sample is to be exercised or whether the laboratory analysis of the ‘A’ sample is to be accepted.
The five days will expire on Friday and then the JOA will release the name of the athlete.
The athlete tested positive for the drug Boldenone during the Jamaican trials last month.
