Another gold for Jamaica's Special Olympic team

Jamaica had a successful day on today’s fourth day of the Special Olympics Summer Games in Athens, Greece by capturing another gold medal and also adding a silver and a bronze to their medal tally.



The country has now won two gold, four silver and three bronze medals.



Shereen Gordon won Jamaica’s second gold medal of the Games in the bocce. Jamaica’s other competitor in the bocce Esther Pair finished fifth.



The silver was won by veteran Nigel Davis in the 10 thousand-metre race; while Monique Brown won the bronze in the 500-metre roller skating event to add to her silver in the 300-metre roller skating event yesterday.



Jamaica’s medal count is expected to rise significantly as of tomorrow, as the highly anticipated track events will begin in earnest. The island’s athletes are expected to do very well in this section of the Games.



Meanwhile, Jamaica were awarded three points in the football competition today, as Russia refused to take the field after receiving three red cards and a cadre of yellow in their previous games.



Jamaica’s footballers will rest tomorrow to get ready for Uruguay on Saturday.
