News Corporation under investigation
Executives from Rupert Murdoch's media empire, News Corporation, are reportedly cooperating with police who are probing into allegations that the phone of a slain teenage girl was hacked into by journalists from the British newspaper, News of the World.
The girl had gone missing for sometime before her body was found in 2002.
The lawyers representing the young girl’s family claim they have known about the accusations against the journalists since April.
So far this year five people have been arrested in connection with the phone hacking scandal, yet the police are refusing to say whether the girl is a victim.
The victims’ attorneys alleged that approximately 7000 people had their phones hacked by private investigators from the paper.
They also say Murdoch even attempted to pressure the former prime minister, Gordon Brown to ‘back away’ from investigating the scandal last year.
Prime Minister David Cameron has insisted on a thorough enquiry after the claim was brought to attention when a rival newspaper, the Guardian, reported that journalists from the newspaper were ‘interfering’ with a police investigation.
