Jamaica secure two more bronze at WYC

Chanice Porter and Olivia James won Jamaica’s fourth and fifth medals of the World Youth Championships in Lille, France today.



Porter cleared 1.82 metres for the bronze medal in the girls’ high jump final on today’s third day.



Olivia James clocked a personal best time of 52.14s in the girls' 400m final. The event was won by the Bahamian Shaunae Miller in a personal best time of 51.84s.



Jamaica have now secured two gold and three bronze.



Ligia Grozav of Romania and Iryna Herashchenko of Ukraine both recorded world youth-leading clearances of 1.87 metres. However, Grozav was rewarded with the gold medal.



Meanwhile, O’Dail Todd of Green Island High School secured a spot in the semi-finals of the boys’ 200 metres to stay on course for a double sprint medal. Todd won Heat 2 of the sprint in 21.60 seconds the third fastest qualifying time.



Todd won the gold medal in the boys’ 100 metres yesterday.



In the girls’ 200 metres, Shericka Jackson and Kadisha Dallas will represent Jamaica in the semi-finals. Jackson booked her place in the semis following a close second place finish in Heat 2. Jackson and Monica Brennan of Australia crossed the line in 24.08 seconds.



Dallas qualified following a fourth place in Heat 2. She clocked 25.09 seconds.



Simoya Campbell and Marleena Eubanks did not qualify for the girls’ 800-metre final, which is scheduled for Sunday’s final day of the championships.



Both athletes finished seventh in their semi-final heats.
