West Indies remain in seventh spot

West Indies have maintained their seventh place in the latest International Cricket Council Test Rankings despite gaining two rating points following the three-match series which concluded yesterday with a draw in Dominica.



West Indies lost the three-Test series 1-0, following a 63-run defeat in the first Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica. The two teams also drew the second Test at Kensington Oval in Barbados.



India hold on to their number one status, but lost a couple of rating points after drawing two matches in their 1-0 series triumph. India now have 126 points while the seventh-placed West Indies moved to 88 points.



Among the players, West Indies fast bowler Fidel Edwards achieved his career-best ranking 16th, a gain of two places. He holds the 16th place jointly with South Africa spinner Paul Harris.



West Indies captain Darren Sammy is up one place to 29th.



The top three bowlers remain unchanged with Dale Steyn of South Africa still leading the way ahead of England’s Graeme Swann in second position and James Anderson in third.



In the batting department, West Indies hero Shivnarine Chanderpaul has risen to seventh, following his match-saving 116 not out in the second innings in his record 133rd Test match.



Meanwhile, fellow century-maker Kirk Edwards has entered the rankings in 60th place after the 26-year-old from Barbados joined an elite group of people who have scored Test centuries on debut.



The top five remain unchanged with Jacques Kallis of South Africa still leading the way ahead of India’s Sachin Tendulkar in second position followed by Kumar Sangakkara, Jonathan Trott and Alastair Cook.
