Jamaica seeks glory at CAC Champs

Seventeen Jamaicans will be in action tomorrow when competition at the 2011 Central American and Caribbean Senior Championships gets underway in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.



The first Jamaican in action on the opening day will be decathlete Claston Bernard, who will compete in three events in the morning session. The 100 metres will be his first, followed by the long jump and shot put.



Hammer thrower Natalie Grant, who is ranked fifth in the event with a best of 61.38 metres, will the first Jamaican contesting a final.



The morning session will see eight other Jamaican in action in the preliminary rounds of the women and men’s flat 400 and 400-metre hurdles. The finals of those events will take place in the evening sessions.



Patricia Hall and Shereefa Lloyd are down to contest the women’s 400 metres, while new national champion, Riker Hylton and Dewayne Barrett will take part in the men’s 400.



In the 400 hurdles, Andrea Sutherland and Sheryl Morgan and the female representatives, while Roxroy Cato and Leford Green are the male representatives.



The preliminary rounds of the men and women’s 100 metres will also take place on the opening day. Jura Levy, Simone Facey, Dexter Lee and Oshane Bailey are the Jamaican sprinters. The sprint finals will also take place in the evening session.
