Jamaica wins bronze on opening day of CAC Championships

Natalie Grant won Jamaica’s first medal at the 2011 Central American and Caribbean Senior Championships in Puerto Rico by claiming the bronze in the women’s hammer throw on today’s opening day.



Grant threw 62.46 metres to seize the bronze and improved on her personal-best of 61.38 metres.



Eli Johana Moreno of Colombia won the gold medal with a throw of 67.97 metres, while Venezuelan Rosa Rodriquez took the silver medal by registering 65.74.



Meanwhile, Patricia Hall and Shereefa Lloyd have booked their spots in the final of the women’s 400 metres. The final will take place during the evening session.



Lloyd advanced to the final with the second fastest qualifying time after clocking 52.21 for second place in her heat. Hall won her heat in 53.63 seconds.



Later today, Jamaican Jason Morgan is down to contest the men’s discus final, while Allison Randall will represent Jamaica in the women’s final.



The preliminary rounds of the men and women’s 400-metre hurdles will take place in the evening session.



Jamaica will be represented by Andrea Sutherland and Sheryl Morgan in the women’s 400 hurdles, while Roxroy Cato and Leford Green are the male representatives.



The preliminary rounds of the men and women’s 100 metres will also take place today. Jura Levy, Simone Facey, Dexter Lee and Oshane Bailey are the Jamaican sprinters. The sprint finals will also take place in the evening session.
