Jamaica top medal table at CAC Championships

Jamaica finished top of the medal table at the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Senior Track and Field Championship, which ended in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico last night.



The Jamaicans ended the three-day meet with a medal-haul of 26 comprising 10

gold, six silver and 10 bronze.



Mexico finished in second place with 19 medals comprising seven gold, six silver and six bronze.



Ten medals were won by Jamaica on the final day, including four gold.



Vonette Dixon won the women’s 100-metre hurdles in 12.77 seconds; Eric

Kedoo won the men’s 110-metre hurdles in 13.49 and Korene Hinds took

the women’s 3,000-metre steeplechase in nine minutes 54.67 seconds.



Jamaica’s other gold medal on the final day came from the women’s 4 by 400-

metre relay team. The quartet of Andrea Sutherland, Shereefa Lloyd, Natoya Goule

and Patricia Hall won the event in 3 minutes 29.86 seconds.



Jamaica had to settle for the bronze medals in the men and women’s 200 metre

finals.



Jason Young clocked 20.78 seconds for third place in the men’s 200 metres, which was won by Michael Mahieu of the Bahamas in 20.60.



Anastacia Leroy clocked 23.13 for her third place in the women’s 200

metres. Nivea Smith of the Bahamas won the gold medal in 22.80, ahead of

her teammate Anthonique Strachan, who clocked 22.90.



Other bronze medals for Jamaica on the final day came from Wilbert Walker in the

men’s triple jump, Peaches Roach in the women heptathlon and the men’s 4 by 400

metre-relay team.
