Jamaica defeated the Dominican Republic 2-1 yesterday to secure their second straight victory in the inaugural Central America and Caribbean 12 and Under Team Tennis Championship in El Salvador.
The Jamaican team of Roger Lyn and Dimitri Bird will now attempt to get into the main draw when they face Costa Rico.
For the second time Lyn had to retire because of illness. He won the first set 5-3 against Nick Hard but lost the second 4-2 before the premature end to the match.
Bird equalised the tie for Jamaica with a decisive 4-0, 4-2 win over Jose Oscar Diaz. In the deciding doubles match, Bird and Lyn defeated Hard and Diaz 5-3, 4-2 to clinch the tie.
Jamaica defeated Puerto Rico by a similar 2-1 margin yesterday.
