Shane Wilson wins gold for Jamaica

Shane Wilson won Jamaica’s only gold medal at the 2011 Ocean Spray Wata Pan American Junior Badminton Championship on yesterday’s final day of the tournament at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston.
Wilson won the gold medal in the Boys’ Under-13 Singles by defeating Canadian Desmond Wang two sets to one in the final. Wilson won 21-9, 14-21, 21-18.
Erin O’Donoghue of Canada won the Girls’ Under-13 gold medal by defeating American Stephanie Yu 13-21, 25-13, 21-18 in the final.
Jamaica finished the tournament with one gold and three bronze medals, which were won on Saturday’s penultimate day.
