Murders soar in Bahamas

Police statistics in The Bahamas are indicating that the number of murders reported in July hit a record for any one month.



According to the Nassau Guardian, the murder count which rose to 20 on Saturday morning exceeded the record 16 reported in March this year.



Before that the record was 12, reported in January.



Officials said the rise in murders is believed to be the result of a drug and turf war.



So far this year, there have been 85 murders in The Bahamas.
