Grenada: Tourism minister calls for more government involvement in LIAT

Grenada’s Tourism Minister Peter David has asserted that his government should consider becoming the fourth government shareholder of LIAT.

The Grenada government is helping the airline to pay its huge debt to workers in the country.

David said he intends to campaign for the Tillman Thomas Government to become more involved in LIAT’s operations.

Meanwhile, LIAT workers, who were on strike, have voted to end their protest over the back-pay.

Yesterday the Grenada government agreed to pay some of the money owed the workers on behalf of the airline, but converted the funds into equity in the 59-year-old carrier.

LIAT is currently owned by the governments of Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
