Veronica Campbell-Brown, Jamaica’s outstanding performer in Athens four years ago, has been given the great honour of marching with the country’s flag at the official opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

The official ceremony starts in China this evening at 8.08 p.m. that is 7.08 a.m. in Jamaica.

Chef de Mission Don Anderson said Campbell-Brown was the unanimous choice as she is the only individual gold medallist in the team.

The 26 year old former Vere Technical and Arkansas University student won the 200 metres final in Athens, before leading the sprint relay team to victory.

Earlier she had won a bronze medal in the 100 metres.

This will be Campbell Brown’s third Olympics. She was a member of the quartet, which won silver behind the Bahamas at Sydney in 2000.

The Jamaicans will be dressed in the national colours for the ceremony.

The men will be attired in green polo shirts, yellow jackets and black pants.

The women will wear Indian type shirts, long jackets down to the knee and black capris.
