Bermudians have been spared significant damage after Tropical Storm Gert, packing 60 miles per hour winds, passed well to the east of the island this morning.

Gert is the seventh named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.

The Bermuda Weather Service said the island might experience showers later today, as Gert's strongest winds and showers would remain well to the east.

The weather service said mainly settled conditions are expected through the rest of the week, with a few showers possible each day.

The tropical storm warning which was in effect for Bermuda has been cancelled.
