Spain has reportedly pledged US$100 million to help revitalise Haiti\'s agriculture industry as well as rebuild roads and schools.

The deputy Prime Minister, Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, said the Spanish government would provide the aid from 2009 to 2012.

Fernandez is urging Haiti to improve its security, so that Spain could continue investing in that country.

Seven people were killed during food riots in Port au Prince in April.

The riots also led to the sacking of the then Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis.
