Swimmer Jeremy Knowles and tennis player Devin Mullings, of the Bahamas, found their opposition too much on day three of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Knowles crashed out in the men’s 200-metre butterfly and Mullings was beaten in his first-round men’s singles tennis match on a slow day for Caribbean competitors.
At the National Aquatics Centre, Knowles finished sixth in heat three of the men’s 200-metre butterfly preliminaries. He clocked two minutes 01.08 seconds.
Taipei’s Chi-Chieh Hsu won the heat in 1 minute 56.59 seconds.
American star Michael Phelps, eying a record eight Olympic gold medals, was the quickest of the round, clocking an Olympic record 1-minute 53.70.
