Mullings’ lawyers prepare for October hearing

The legal team representing Jamaican sprinter Steve Mullings is now preparing for an October 19 to 20 disciplinary hearing into the athlete’s doping case.
The disciplinary hearing was scheduled to start yesterday at the Institute of Jamaica, but Mullings’ lawyers asked for an extension to fully prepare their case.
The request was granted by the Lennox Gayle-chaired disciplinary panel of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission. The disciplinary panel also includes Dr Japheth Ford and Peter Prendergast.
Mullings tested positive for the banned substance Furosemide, just 16 days before the world championships begin in South Korea. He was omitted from the country’s squad.
Furosemide is typically used to conceal the presence of banned substances in the blood stream.
He returned the positive test at the national trials in June. The 28-year-old had previously tested positive for testosterone in 2004 and served a two-year ban.
He could face a life ban from the sport if found guilty.
