ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – China is providing US$1.4 million for a housing scheme in the Carib Reserve at Salybia, east of here, Housing Minister Reginald Austrie has said.

Austrie said that the Roosevelt Skerrit administration this week received US$500,000 as a first tranche “and we are very very happy to announce that sometime in November....we are hoping to break ground and to construct those 41 houses.

He said eight sites had originally been identified for the construction of the homes, but the authorities would be focusing on four of them with the tender documents already going out to potential contractors.

“We are hoping to receive those documents back within two weeks and so we are hoping before independence (November 3) actual construction can in effect begin,” he added.
