Cabinet approves anti-doping commission
Cabinet yesterday approved an 11-member board to oversee Jamaica’s Anti-Doping Commission.
The board includes, Mike Fennell, president of the Jamaica Olympic Association, Howard Aris, president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association and Molly Rhone, president of the International Federation of Netball Association.
The remaining members are Professor Errol Morrison, Dr. Marion Bullock Ducasse, Dr. Herbert Elliot, Mrs. Alveta Knight, Joan Brown, Mrs. Vilma McDonald, Chris Stoke and Dr. Andrew Wheatley.
Over two weeks ago, government passed the anti-doping legislation, clearing the way for the establishment of the Jamaica National Anti-Doping Commission.
Four week ago, Dr. Adrian Lorde, who heads the Caribbean body, told the BBC he was concerned that the Jamaican authorities were not taking the problem of doping in sport seriously enough.
