The authorities in Afghanistan said three foreign aid workers, including a Trinidadian, and their Afghan driver were killed yesterday in a province bordering the capital, Kabul.
Police in Logar province said all three women, one American, another Canadian-British, and the third Trinidadian, worked for the aid organisation, the International Rescue Committee.
They were attacked by gunmen, who ambushed the two cars they were travelling in near the provincial capital, Pul-i-Alam.
A BBC correspondent in Afghanistan said Logar has become increasingly violent.
The United Nations classifies the province as a high risk.
