T&T advances to semi finals

Trinidad and Tobago’s George Bovell qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 50-metre freestyle when he placed second in his first-round heat.



Bovell clocked a fast 21.77 seconds and is the sixth fastest going into the semi-finals tomorrow.



Barbadian swimmer Bradley Alley missed a spot in the men’s 200-metre individual medley final when he placed fourth in his semi-final.



Ally, who clocked a personal best 1 minute 58.57 seconds in the preliminaries on Wednesday night, clocked 1 minute 59.53 seconds in semi-final two at the National Aquatics Centre this morning.



He was the ninth fastest in the semi-final round and a mere 0.10 seconds off the mark, as Canadian Keith Beavers one minute 59.43 grabbed the eighth and last position for the medal race.



Ryan Lochte won Ally’s semi-final in 1 minute 57.69, while his American teammate and defending champion Michael Phelps captured the first semi-final in one minute 57.69.
