Alia Atkinson breaks another record on way to 100m breaststroke final

GUADALAJARA MEXICO: Alia Atkinson continued to smash her own national records in the pool at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico and appears set for at least a bronze in the women's 100m breaststroke.
Swimming in heat two of the event this morning at the Scotiabank Aquatic Centre, Atkinson clocked 1:09.28 for second, clipping 0.63 hundredths of a second off the 1:09.91 she set at the Sette Colli International meet on June 17 in Coral Springs, Florida.
Atkinson's time is the third fastest going into tonight's final (7:50 p.m).
The fastest qualifier is Canada's Ashley McGregor who won heat three in 1:09.24. American Ashley Wanland won heat two in 1:09.26, touching just ahead of Atkinson who had led for most of the way.
