Atkinson in search of second medal

Jamaica’s swimming sensation Alia Atkinson will go in search of her second medal at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico this evening.



Atkinson has qualified for the medal round of the women’s 200m breaststroke, with the fourth fastest time. The final is scheduled to start at 7:13 p.m.



Atkinson booked her spot after winning her preliminary round heat in 2:32.33 this morning. American Michelle McKeehan was second in 2:32.68.



Ashley McGregor of Canada advanced with the fastest qualifying time of two 2:29.32.



Atkinson won a silver medal in the women’s 200m individual medley on Tuesday night.



Meanwhile, Jamaica’s other swimmer Kendese Nangle, who was down for the women’s 100m freestyle yesterday, did not face the starter because of an ankle injury.
