Dominica: PM blasts Opposition boycott

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has blasted opposition legislators accusing them of hindering the work of Parliament and collecting salaries they have not worked for.

The accusations were levied after United Workers Party (UWP) parliamentarians walked out of Tuesday’s House of Assembly sitting to press demands for electoral reforms.

The prime minister said the House has not been able to appoint parliamentary committees to do important work.

Opposition members have been boycotting parliament since January 2010 on the basis that the 2009 general elections, which it lost to the Dominica Labour Party, were fraudulent.

UWP Leader Ron Green has vowed to continue the protest until electoral reforms are implemented.
