Badminton: Pyne, Henry off to Puerto Rico

Jamaica’s top badminton players Charles Pyne and Gareth Henry will travel to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico International, which starts on Friday in San Juan.



The players are trying to qualify for next year’s London Olympics.



The Jamaicans have just captured the men’s doubles at the 2011 Santo Domingo Open in the Dominican Republic.



The unseeded Jamaicans won the title yesterday by defeating third seeds Francois Bourett and Kevin Li of Canada 19-21, 21-16, 21-12 in the final.



The Jamaican duo is currently ranked 234th in the world, while Bourett and Li are ranked at 194th.



In the men’s singles, Pyne lost in the third round to fifth seed Michal Matejka of Slovakia 21-19, 21-13.



Henry made it to the quarter-finals and lost to third seed Stephan Wojcikiewicz of Canada 21-15, 21-13.
