Governor General of Barbados Sir Clifford Husbands, 85, is stepping down after 15 years in office.
A statement released yesterday said retired High Court Judge, Elliot Belgrade, will act in the post until further notice.
Sir Clifford is the island’s sixth head of state.
He has served since 1996 and is the second governor general to retire from the post after Sir Hugh Springer in June 1990.
The others all died in office.
