Another silver for Jamaica
Jamaica struck silver in the 400-metres finals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics this morning.
Shericka Williams produced a personal-best 49.69 seconds to place second win pushing Jamaica’s medal haul to five.
The medal count comprises two gold and three silver.
Jamaica’s other entry in the 400 metres final Rosemarie Whyte finished seventh in 50.68 seconds.
The gold medal went to Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain, who produced a storming finish to overhaul favourite Sanya Richards of the USA.
Ohuruogu won in a season-best 49.62 seconds and added the Olympic gold to the world title won in Osaka last year.
The Jamaican-born Richards took the bronze medal in 49.93.
The Jamaica’s experienced campaigners Brigitte Foster Hylton and Delloreen Ennis London finished out of the medals in the women’s 100-metre hurdles final.
Ennis London finished fifth in 12.65, just a head of Foster Hylton, who clocked 12.66.
Dawn Harper of the USA won gold in a personal-best 12.54 seconds.
The silver medal went to Australia’s national record holder Sally McLellan, who finished in 12.64.
Canada’s Priscilla Lopes-Schliep also ran 12 .64, but walks away with bronze after a photo finish.
