Bolt on course for sprint double

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt sustained his gallant march towards the cherished Olympic sprint double in Beijing, China this morning when he cruised into the final of the men’s 200 metres.



The 21 year old, who captured the 100-metres in a world record time on Saturday, clocked 20.09 seconds to cross the line ahead of Americans Shawn Crawford 20.12 and Wallace Spearman 20.14 in the second semi-final.



Kim Collins of St. Kitts-Nevis was fourth in a season’s best 20.25 seconds.



The Netherland Antilles’ Churandy Martina, who captured the first semi-final in 20.11seconds, will join bolt and Collins in tomorrow’s final.



There was disappointment for Jamaica’s Christopher Williams, who finished sixth in 20.45 seconds to miss out on a spot in the final.



Jamaica had another disappointment later in the day when Ricardo Chambers missed out on a spot in the men’s 400-metre finals.



Chambers clocked 45.09, for fourth place in the second semi-final won by Leslie Djhone of France in 44.79.



All three Jamaica’s women are through to the semi-finals of the women’s 200 metres, which will take place tomorrow morning.



Sherone Simpson won her second round heat in 22.60 this morning, to advance with the fastest qualifying time.



Veronica Campell-Brown, 22.64 also won her second round heat beating American Alison Felix.



The other Jamaican, Kerron Stewart, booked her place following a second place finish in her second round heat.
