Two opposition parties in Dominica have renewed calls for electoral reform ahead of the next general election, which is constitutionally due by 2011.
In separate letters to the Electoral Commission and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) and the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) urged that the reform process begin now since the poll could be called at any time.
Newly appointed Opposition Leader, Ron Green, said that the reform should begin with a new voters’ list.
He claims there are dead people and people who have been non-residents for more than five years on the current voters list.
Mr. Green said the UWP also wants fair access to the state-owned media.
