ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC - The Trinidad and Tobago based Caribbean Airlines (CAL) will begin operating a service between Grenada and Canada in December, Tourism Minister Peter David announced Tuesday.

“Most often than not, flights between Grenada and JFK (John F Kennedy airport in New York) operate on average 96 per cent and the airline has been pleased with that experience,” David said, adding “and it is based on that we have decided to expand unto the Canadian route”.

The service, which begins on December 15, will originate from Trinidad. CAL currently operates a twice weekly flight between Grenada and JFK, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“Our regional neighbours benefit tremendously from the Canadian market and increase airlift between Grenada and Canada has always been a priority for us,” David said, noting “the onus is for us to now increase our marketing drive to make maximum use of what the Canadian market can offer”.

Two other airlines have confirmed winter chartered flights to Grenada.

The Toronto-based Sunwing airlines is expected to operate a weekly chartered flight between Canada and Grenada from December 14 to January 11 next year, while Air Canada will commence its service from December 24 to April 14.
