Donald Quarrie, the 1976 Olympic 200 metres champion, yesterday described Usain Bolt’s world-record run in the Beijing Olympic 200-metre final as smooth and fantastic.
Quarrie, who is the technical leader for Jamaica’s team, said it was fantastic to see Bolt going full speed in the straightaway.
Bolt’s mark of 19.30 seconds bettered the previous best of 19.32 set by America’s ‘Superman’ Michael Johnson back in 1996.
Asked if he expected Bolt to run that fast, Quarrie who held both 100 and 200 metre records in the mid ’70s said he knew it was possible.
