India replying strongly to West Indies big total

Hosts India are replying strongly to the West Indies massive first innings total of 590 in the third and final Test in Mumbai.



At stumps on today’s third day, India reached 281-3 and trailing by 309 runs with seven wickets in hand.



Captain Darren Sammy, Ravi Rampaul and Marlon Samuels ended with a wicket apiece.



Sammy picked up the first wicket, bowling opener Virender Sehwag for 37 with the score on 67.



Pacer Rampaul then had fellow opener Gautum Gambhir caught by wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh for 55 at 138 and Samuel bowled Rahul Dravid for 82.



The batsmen at the crease are VVX Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar, who is edging towards a famous cricketing milestone.



Tendulkar, who is searching for a record 100th international century, is undefeated on 67 on a batsman-friendly track. Laxman is 32 not out.



Earlier, the West Indies added another 24 runs to their overnight score of 566 for nine before spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowled last man Devendra Bishoo for 12.



Aswin ended with a five-wicket haul, his second in just his third Test. He finished with 5-156.



The West Indies are looking to avoid a series whitewash. India have already won the three-Test series 2-0.
