Guyana: Bodies of school children found in pit
Police in Guyana say they have found the decomposed bodies of three school children in a mining pit at Sandhills, near the Aishalton Secondary School.
They believe the children, whose names have not been disclosed, may have fallen into the pit.
Officials say the police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the students who are aged 11 and 12 years.
The children were last seen on November 27 during the school lunch break.
A government official says the bodies were buried immediately because of the state of decomposition but are expected to be exhumed for the pathologist to do examinations.
A team including police officials and crime scene experts, along with ministry officials, are scheduled to travel to the location today.
