Australian Darrell Hair has resigned from the International Cricket Council’s, ICC, elite panel of umpires

The 55-year-old has quit to become executive officer of the New South Wales Umpires and Scorers Association.

He was removed from the elite panel following the ball-tampering row that erupted during the Oval Test between Pakistan and England in August 2006.

Hair returned to the panel in March but has umpired in just two Tests, both between England and New Zealand.

Hair will take up his new role on September 1, but is contracted to the ICC until October 31.
