Reigning Olympic 200-metre champion Veronica Campbell-Brown believes female sprinter will continue to play second fiddle to the men until someone gets close to or breaks Florence Griffith-Joyner’s World records.
Before a capacity crowd at the Bird’s Nest Stadium last week, the Jamaican ran her heart out to clock a personal best of 21.74 seconds to defend her Olympic half-lap title.
She was still a long way off the 20 year old 200-metre World record of 21.34.
Griffith-Joyner also holds the women’s 100-metre World record of 10.49.
Campbell said the men get more attention in the sprints based on the fact that the World records in the 100 and 200 metres are reachable.
She said Florence’s records are beyond her.
