Walsh to run for JCA president

Former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh will run for president of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA).

His decision came following the news that long-standing president Jackie Hendriks has decided to step down.

Hendriks, a former West Indies wicketkeeper, who played 20 Tests in the 1960s, has been in charge since taking over from the late Rex Fennell 10 years ago.

The election of the new president will take place at the JCA’s Annual General Meeting in September.

Walsh is currently the president of the Melbourne Cricket Club. He represented the West Indies from 1984 to 2001 and retired with 519 Test wickets.

Also contesting the post of president is vice-president of the JCA Paul Campbell, who has been credited with implementing the Jamaican semi-professional league, which had its inauguration earlier this year.
