T&T recommits to EPA
The government of Trinidad and Tobago has recommitted to signing the Economic Partnership Agreement with Europe.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Patrick Manning also hinted that a planned Caribbean Community meeting to discuss the division among leaders might take place on September 8.
Barbados Prime Minister David Thompson had sought the urgent CARICOM summit amid reports that some Caribbean islands, were not willing to sign the accord on September 2.
Grenada, St. Lucia and Guyana have indicated that they would not sign the document.
He noted that while a tentative September 8 date had been set for the CARICOM talks, Guyana is to hold its public consultations on the EPA on September 5 and 6.
Mr. Manning said the government is ready to sign and that that is the position of several other countries.
