Grenada: PM confirms minister being investigated

Grenadian Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has confirmed that a probe has been launched into reports that one of his ministers had promised an investor a gaming license.

However, he is remaining tightlipped as to whether the minister in question has been dismissed.

Reports had indicated that Prime Minister Thomas had rescinded an earlier decision to dismiss Environment Minister Joseph Gilbert, following an emergency Cabinet meeting.

It is reported that Prime Minister Thomas had planned to reshuffle his cabinet after a controversial letter allegedly written by Gilbert came to light.

Thomas is on record as indicating that his administration would not support any project involving casino gambling, and according to the sources, the letter to Swedish developers had promised Gilbert’s intervention in the matter.
