Jamaican lawyer released
Controversial Jamaican lawyer, Hugh Wildman could arrive in the island today after being released from police custody in Grenada yesterday.
Wildman, who is a former legal adviser to the previous Keith Mitchell administration, was detained on Saturday, as he tried to board a flight home.
A spokesperson for the Royal Grenada Police Troy Garvey confirmed that Wildman was being held as part of investigations into a possible fraud involving the now defunct First International Bank in Grenada.
Hundreds of American and Canadian citizens lost millions of dollars when the bank folded.
Wildman’s attorney Dwight Horsford believes his client was only detained for questioning because of his connection to the former administration.
Wildman was often in conflict with opposition parties, while he served the previous administration.
In 2005, lawyers in Grenada protested a recommendation by the then government for Wildman to be named Attorney General.
The Judicial and Legal Services Commission eventually rejected the nomination after weeks of protest.
