The seven-week-old government in Grenada has defended its decision to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with three other Caribbean countries outlining their intent to form an economic and political union by 2013.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Peter David, said the government would not proceed to a final decision without widespread public consultation.
The MOU has been signed among Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Some Grenadines believe the new government should instead be concentrating on domestic issues, instead of venturing into the initiative.
