Beijing Olympic hero Usain Bolt led a plethora of Jamaican victories at the Athletissima Super Grand Prix track and field meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland yesterday.

Easing considerably as he neared the finish Bolt ran a fast 19.63 seconds to win the men’s 200 metres.

It was the second-fastest time in the world this year, topped only by his world record 19.30, while winning the gold medal at last month’s Beijing Olympics.

Bolt ran 30 minutes after his fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell matched the second-fastest 100 metres in history.

Powell’s time of 9.72 seconds equalled the old world record set by Bolt in New York last May. Only Bolt has run faster, in his astonishing Olympic gold medal-winning run of 9.69 in Beijing last month.

Powell finished ahead of American Walter Dix, who clocked 9.92. Jamaican Nesta Carter was third in a personal-best 9.98 and his countryman Michael Frater was fourth in 10.04.

There were four other victories for Jamaica at the meet.

Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser won the women’s 100 metres in 11 point 0-3 seconds, ahead of teammate Kerron Stewart, who clocked 11 point 0-6.

Novlene Williams took the women’s 400 metres in 50 point 3-3 ahead of her Jamaican teammate Shericka Williams, who clocked 50 point 4-7.

Melaine Walker won the women’s 400-metre hurdles in 53 point 7-3 seconds. And Dolloreen Ennis-London took the women’s 100-metre hurdles in 12 point 6-0.
