Nevis premier appeals for calm amid protests

Nevis Premier Joseph Parry has called for calm among citizens after a High Court ruled on Friday that the result for the St John’s District from last year’s Nevis Island Administration (NIA) elections were null and void.

Mr Parry’s Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) holds a one seat majority in the NIA. Following the elections last July, NRP deputy leader Hensley Daniels was declared the winner of the St John’s District by 14 votes.

But the court was asked to declare the results null and void because of a number of irregularities, including the removal of 200 names from the list of registered voters ahead of the polls.

However, Mr Parry says his party has already filed an appeal of the High Court ruling and urged citizens to await the outcome of the Appeal Court deliberations.
