Trinidad: Telecom chief executive resigns

The chief executive officer of the state-controlled Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago Roberto Peon has confirmed that he has resigned.

The confirmation comes amid media reports that his resignation may have been as a result of political pressure.

In a full page advertisement, Peon said that his resignation stemmed from the fact that he wanted to be in the United States with his family.

The Express newspaper had recently reported that Peon, a Mexican, who has worked in several countries including Brazil, was being given directives, such as the hiring of select individuals, with which he was uncomfortable.

The newspaper quoted a source as saying that Peon was tired of working with a team that has not been approving necessary business proposals to support the operations and development of the company in mobile and broadband networks, advertising, recruitment and key resources.
