Goodison set for Honduras game
Jamaica’s ace central defender Ian ‘Pepe’ Goodison, who is nursing an injury, will be ready for the country’s crucial CONCACAF Group ‘B’ World Cup qualifying game against hosts Honduras tomorrow night in San Pedro Sula.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 8.30 p.m.
Doctor Charles Roberts said Goodison is recovering very well and will have a light training tonight, his first since the Reggae Boyz arrived in Honduras on Sunday.
Goodison, a crucial part of the country’s defensive pillar during its historic qualification for the 1998 World Cup finals in France, was the victim of a horrible challenge from Mexican captain Rafael Marque on Saturday.
The injury left the tough defender motionless for a while, but he managed to return to the field after treatment.
Captain Ricardo Gardner and emerging midfield warrior Rudolph Austin are expected to be ready after picking up minor injuries.
Following their 3-0 defeat to Mexico at the Azteca Stadium on Saturday night, Jamaica are now at the bottom of the four-team points table with one point, the same as Canada, but with an inferior goal difference.
Mexico lead with maximum six points from two games, three ahead of Honduras, which scored a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Canada in Montreal on Saturday.
Only two teams will progress from the group.
