Egypt bans ex Mubarak presidential candidates

The Egyptian parliament has passed a law banning senior officials who served under ex-President Hosni Mubarak from running in May's presidential election.

It means the former Vice-President Omar Suleiman would not be able to continue as a presidential candidate.

However, the law would only come into effect if it is approved by the country's ruling military council, which took power last year.

The justice ministry has already said the new measure is unconstitutional.
