T&T/US kick off

Trinidad and Tobago will have to do without captain Dwight York when they try to create history by defeating giants United States for the first time in their CONCACAF World Cup semi-final round qualifier today.

The experienced Yorke was recalled by English Premiership club Sunderland and the captain’s armband will now be worn by defender Cyd Gray, for the second encounter at the Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois.

T&T have never defeated the United States in a football match and the closest they came was in 1989, when they earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

The T&T team will have an enormous task on their hands against the vastly improved Americans, especially given the fact that the visitors are missing Yorke and a number of other players.

This will be the third match for both teams in the semi-final round of the CONCACAF zone, as they continue to chase a qualification spot for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
