Ike heads for Texas
The cities of Corpus Christi and Galveston in the US state of Texas are now on alert as Hurricane Ike might hit the Texas coast this weekend.
The National Hurricane Center said Ike is likely to come ashore along the Texas coast between Galveston and Brownsville as a major hurricane.
Forecasters said the storm could change course at the last minute.
Forecasters said Ike is likely to make landfall around Port O\'Connor, Texas late Friday or early Saturday, as a Category 3 hurricane, with winds of between 111-130 miles per hour.
Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas, said the city will continue to monitor the storm.
Ike\'s center left western Cuba late yesterday afternoon, having hit it with 75-mile ler hour winds, high surf and torrential rains in its second Cuban landfall in three days.
